She is a member of the main centre-right Croatian Democratic Union. She was elected mayor in June 2005 at the age of 25, making her the youngest mayor in the country.[1] Rimac was born in Lukar (part of Promina municipality) and spent her first four years of schooling in Knin, until the Croatian war of independence broke out in the 1990s. She then went to school in Rijeka and Split and returned to Knin in October 1995, when the fighting stopped. Rimac studied at the school of economics where she also learned the English language. She also spent a lot of time volunteering for the local Red Cross in Knin, and in 2000 was named director of the Red Cross in the city of Knin, the youngest director in the country. In 2005, Rimac was promoted to director of the Red Cross in Šibenik-Knin County (all of which was volunteer work). She has been involved with politics since school, and became a member of the HDZ (Croatian Democratic Union). On June 10, 2005, she was elected mayor of Knin. In September 2015 Rimac submitted her resignation to the position of mayor of Knin so she could "participate in the HDZ election campaign for the 2015 parliamentary elections." On September 25, 2015, Croatian Parliament unanimously and without debate took away Rimac's parliamentary immunity thereby allowing the State Attorney's Office (DORH) to continue the investigation against her for suspected illegally acquiring apartment and damaging the state budget for more than 500,000 kunas while she served as a Mayor.[2] Rimac is married with a young daughter, Katja (born c. 2002).[3] Sources1. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.vjesnik.hr/Article.aspx?ID=6EA0A462-925A-4CD4-9845-A406B62F496B |title=Knin više nije grad slučaj, ali nije doživio ni gospodarsku oluju |newspaper=Vjesnik |language=Croatian |accessdate=24 December 2011 |date=4 August 2011 |author=Jadranka Klisović |trans-title=Knin is no longer a problematic city, but it did not achieve an economic boom either |archivedate=14 June 2012 |archiveurl=https://www.webcitation.org/68Plgfp7g?url=http://www.vjesnik.hr/Article.aspx?ID=6EA0A462-925A-4CD4-9845-A406B62F496B |deadurl=yes |df= }} 2. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.hrt.hr/300005/vijesti/dorh-trazi-ukidanje-imuniteta-josipi-rimac|title=Sabor jednoglasno ukinuo imunitet Josipi Rimac|date=25 September 2015|work=hrt.hr|publisher=Croatian Radiotelevision|language=hr|accessdate=25 December 2015}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.express.hr/brifing/kninska-kraljica-ne-boji-se-ni-uskok-a-ni-optuzbi-2147|title=Kninska kraljica ne boji se ni USKOK-a ni optužbi|work=express.hr|date=4 September 2015|language=hr|accessdate=25 December 2015}}
