As such, he inaugurates and takes the oath of General Simón Bolívar as President of the Gran Colombia, and General Francisco de Paula Santander as Vice-President. Later, in the same capacity, he would take the oaths of General Tomás Cipriano de Mosquera and José Hilario López.[1] In 1831, Márquez is appointed as Secretary of the Treasury by President Domingo Caycedo.[1] The PresidencyLater, in 1832, Congress elects president and vice-president of Colombia. General Santander is chosen as president and Márquez as vice-president. As such, on March 10, 1832, during President Francisco de Paula Santander’s trip abroad, Márquez occupies the Presidency as interim president.[1] His presidency was noted for its economic and educational reforms and for the War of the Supremes in Pasto, Nariño.
