The company is the largest producer of dairy products and fruit-based beverages in Egypt.[5][6] Juhayna is in strategic partnership with Swedish multinational company, Tetra Pak and Danish dairy products producer, Arla Foods.[7][8] Safwan Thabet is the current Chairman and Seif El Din Thabet is the Chief Executive Officer of the company.[2] HistorySafwan Thabet founded Juhayna in 1983 as Juhayna Food Industries. Initially, the company focused on dairy products and derivatives. In 1987, Juhayna established their first manufacturing unit in 6th of October city in Giza Governorate and began production of packaged milk, yogurt and juice. Juhayna became first company in Egypt to produce packaged milk in 1987.[9] Later in 1987, Juhayna enter into partnership with Tetra Pak, a multinational food packaging and processing company from Sweden.[10][11] In 1991, Juhayna began supplying dairy products to McDonald's. Currently, Juhayna is the sole supplier of dairy products to all outlets of McDonald's in Egypt.[12] In 1998, Juhayna began sponsorship of Egyptian Premier League club, Al Ahly SC. In 2018, Juhayna ended sponsorship of the club after 20 years of association.[13] In 2001, Juhayna began production of Zabado, a sterile flavored yogurt. Zabado was the first fruit flavored yogurt in Egyptian market.[14] Juhayna acquired El Masreya in July 2005 for EGP 500 million. The acquisition increased production capacity of dairy products from 100 tons to 600 tons per day. The manufacturing facilities of El Masreya is located in 6th of October city.[15] In late 2005, Juhayna established Tiba for Trade & Distribution, a storage and distribution wing of the company. Tiba took over network management and transportation of products to Juhayna's 65,000 outlets all over Egypt and Middle-east.[16] In 2008, Juhayna acquired Al Enmaa for agricultural development and livestock maintenance. Al Enmaa utilizes solar energy to power agricultural farms. Al Enmaa is the first Egyptian company to collaborate with KarmSolar to install a 1 MW solar station on desert farm in Bahariya Oasis.[17] The solar station is also the first station that sells electricity to private sectors.[18] Later in 2008, Juhayna established Egyfood and acquired El Marwa Food Industries. Egyfood specializes in the manufacturing of consumable yogurt products.[19] El Marwa's manufacturing facility focuses on processing of fruit concentrate as well as production of fruit pulps and fruit and juice products.[20] In 2009, Juhayna established El Dawleya with emphasis on production and packaging of juice products. El Dawleya is the largest juice factory in Egypt.[21] The same year Juhayna entered into partnership with SIG Combibloc Group, Krones and GEA Group.[22] In 2010, Juhayna was listed on the Egyptian Exchange.[23] In 2013, the company was awarded with the National Quality Award by the Government of Egypt.[24] The same year, a yogurt manufacturing plant under Egyfood was established.[25] In 2014, Juhayna's El Dawleya plant was awarded with Platinum Award of the Arab Quality.[26] Subsequently, the company entered into partnership with Arla Foods in 2015.[27] Juhayna and Arla Foods signed the deals to improve the domestic distribution of Arla products in Egypt and Middle-east as well as the production of locally made cheese.[28] The same year, Juhayna was awarded with CSR Awards by the Federation of Industries of Egypt.[29] As of 2018, Juhayna has six subsidiaries with four manufacturing units at various locations in Egypt. Creating shared valueJuhayna’s outward strategy is fundamentally based on the theory of creating shared values (CSV) and is a prototype of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.[36] Juhayna launched their CSV strategy in 2016 as a part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
