It is located in the eastern central part of the republic and borders with Tsivilsky and Krasnarmeysky Districts in the north, Urmarsky and Yantikovsky Districts in the east, Komsomolsky and Ibresinsky Districts in the south, and with Vurnarsky District in the west.
