KFFG is an FM radio station licensed to Los Altos, California, broadcasting on 97.7 FM MHz. The 97.7 frequency currently simulcasts the programming of sister station KFOG, but will break that simulcast in the summer of 2019, as it has been sold to Educational Media Foundation.[1] Its transmitter is located near Cupertino, California, and studios are located in San Francisco's SoMa district.

KFFG is licensed by the FCC to broadcasts in HD.[2][3]

The station's format is classified as adult album alternative or Triple-A, an eclectic variety of blues, reggae, folk, pop, and rock music from the mid-1960s to the present, which they call "World Class Rock." Both stations are owned by Cumulus Media.

This station is the simulcast of KFOG 104.5 from Sutro Tower in San Francisco.

On February 16, 2017 KFFG filed an application for a Federal Communications Commission construction permit to change the city of license to San Jose. The application was accepted for filing on February 17, 2017.[4]

History of 97.7 FM

97.7 FM signed on the air on October 1, 1960 as KPGM. The station picked up the KPEN call letters in 1970 after they were dropped by KIOI in 1968. Call letters were changed to KLZE (Classy FM) in October 1984.

In January 1988, 97.7 became KHQT ("Hot 97.7"), with a Rhythmic Top 40 format.[5] They became very popular in the South Bay, competing with mainstream Top 40 station KWSS during its first few years.

The format continued until August 7, 1995, when the station was sold to Susquehanna Radio and turned into a simulcast of KFOG.[6][7]

On February 13, 2019, Cumulus Media announced it would sell 6 stations, including KFFG, to the Educational Media Foundation for $103.5 million. The station is expected to flip to either their K-Love or Air 1 network upon the sale's closure.[1]
