The 2011 Nepal census counted 26,301 population.[2] A road connects Khandbari directly south to Biratnagar and the Terai. Khandbari is amongst the top ten most prosperous towns of Nepal.{{cn|date=July 2014}} Khandbari's schools include Surya Boarding School, Bagishwari Secondary School , Makalu English Boarding School and Sunshine English Secondary Boarding School. Its border districts are Bhojpur, Solukhumbu, Taplejung, Terhathum and Dhankuta.
