It has three tracks, one for through services and two platforms. As the first major station on the south- and west-bound line from Heuston station, it is served, or at least passed-through, by a large number of trains. It is also used by timber trains and container trains travelling between Waterford and County Mayo to run round. HistoryThe station opened on 4 August 1846 and was closed for goods traffic on 6 September 1976.[2] Services{{Dublin-Cork railway line}}{{Dublin-Waterford railway line}}{{Dublin-Galway/Westport railway line}}{{Dublin Suburban Rail South Western|collapse=collapsed}}{{IERail start}}{{rail line|previous=Dublin Heuston|next=Portarlington|route=InterCityDublin-Cork Main Line|col=00A500}}{{rail line|previous=Newbridge|next=Monasterevin|route=InterCity Dublin-Limerick|col=FFA500}}{{rail line|previous=Newbridge|next=Monasterevin|route=InterCity Dublin-Galway|col=FFA500}}{{rail line|previous=Dublin Heuston or Newbridge (Sunday)|next=Portarlington|route=InterCity Dublin-Westport/Ballina|col=FFA500}}{{rail line|previous=Newbridge|next=Athy|route=InterCity Dublin-Waterford|col=FFA500}}{{rail line|previous=Newbridge|next=Monasterevin or Terminus|route=Commuter South Western Commuter|col=00A550}}{{s-end}} Bus linksPassengers can also connect at the station to a shuttle bus service to Kildare Village shopping outlet.[3] On days of racing there is a shuttle bus to Curragh Racecourse.
