Saharsa is the administrative headquarters of the division. Currently (2005), the division consists of Saharsa district, Madhepura district, and [[Supaul district]]. EconomyIn 2006 the Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Saharsa one of the country's 250 most backward districts (out of a total of 640).[1] It is one of the 38 districts in Bihar currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Programme (BRGF).[1] The economy of kosi Division is Yet Underdeveloped, due to the Huge disaster came in 2008 as the flood known as Kushaha Calamity[2]{{Circular reference|date=March 2019}}. it affected thousands of village of the Division. HistoryPresent-day Kosi division, all of which was previously part of Saharsa district, is part of the Mithila region.[4] Mithila first gained prominence after being settled by Indo-Aryan peoples who established the Mithila Kingdom (also called Kingdom of the Videhas).[5] During the late Vedic period (c. 1100–500 BCE), Kingdom of the Videhas became one of the major political and cultural centers of South Asia, along with Kuru and Pañcāla. The kings of the Kingdom of the Videhas were called Janakas.[6] The Mithila Kingdom was later incorporated into the Vajji confederacy, which had its capital in the city of Vaishali, which is also in Mithila.[7] LanguageThe predominant language spoken in this region is hindi and Maithili language.[8] The most common dialect of Maithili used in Kosi division is Thēthi dialect.[9] See also
