He works in the Malayalam film industry and has acted in nearly 100 films and produced one film. He is the son of actor-director-producer Boban Kunchacko and grandson of director-producer Kunchacko, who established the film studio Udaya Pictures.[2] Kunchacko's debut was as a child in his father's film Dhanya (1981) at the age of four. He acted in a leading role in the 1997 romantic drama Aniyathipraavu and received an early breakthrough, the film turned to be the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever. He starred in huge successful films in late 1990s, with films such as Mayilpeelikkavu (1998), Nakshatratharattu (1998), Niram (1999) was raised Kunchacko Boban's stardom to a "superstar" level and also in the 2000s he starred in successful films like Priyam (2000), Sathyam Sivam Sundaram (2000), Dosth (2001) and Swapnakoodu (2003). Unlike his regular star-crossed romantic roles, he appeared as a common man in Sathyan Anthikkad's satirical drama Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001) and Lohithadas's drama film Kasthooriman (2003), both critically praised and huge commercially successful. Kunchacko won the Kerala State Film Award – Special Mention for his performance in the 2004 film Ee Snehatheerathu.[3] His career took a setback after few box office failures during mid-2000s. He took a break from films and concentrated on business. He made a successful comeback in 2009 with the comedy movie The Escape, which was well received.[4] Later, he went on to act in successful films such as Mummy & Me (2010), Elsamma Enna Aankutty (2010), Traffic (2011), Seniors (2011),[5] Doctor Love (2011), Ordinary (2012), Mallu Singh (2012), Romans (2013), Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum (2013), How Old Are You? (2014), Madhura Naranga (2015), Jamna Pyari (2015), Kochauvva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho (2016), Take Off (2017), Shikkari Shambhu (2018), Kuttanadan Marpappa (2018), Panchavarnathatha (2018) and Allu Ramendran(2019). In 2016, Kunchacko produced the film Kochavva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho through Udaya Pictures, in the process reviving the studio after a 30-year hiatus. Beside, films and business, Kunchacko also promotes social causes. In 2015, he opened Al Fasht Medical Centre in Sharjah, a medical centre for child behaviour, autism, and adult psychiatry, providing comparatively low-cost health care.[6][7][8] Early lifeKunchacko Boban was born in a Christian Catholic family at Alleppey, Kerala. He hails from the Maliampurakal family, who are credited with owning the first film studio in Kerala, Udaya Studios. He is the grandson of film producer Kunchacko, who also established Udaya Studios. He is also the grandnephew of Navodaya Appachan of Navodaya Studios. Boban is a relative of Jijo Punnose, also a film director. His father, Boban Kunchacko, was also an actor, director, and producer who was part of a few films produced by Udaya. Kunchacko's mother Molly is a housewife. He has two younger sisters, Anu and Mini.[9] Boban Kunchacko later ventured into direction with the films Palattu Kunhikkannan, Sanchari and Aazhi. Career1997–2006Boban was introduced into the Malayalam film industry by versatile director Fazil. His debut movie Aniathipravu (1997), co-starring Shalini, and directed by Fazil[10] was successful with the film becoming to be the highest-grossing Malayalam film ever.{{cn|date=March 2019}} Kunchacko Boban's performance as Sudhi, the lead character was well-received by young audiences and families. Following the success of Aniathipravu, Boban was cast in movies such as Nakshathrathaarattu (1998), Mayilpeelikkavu (1998) and film Niram (1999) was raised Kunchacko Boban's stardom to a superstar level. Then came commercially successful movies such as Priyam (2000), Sathyam Sivam Sundaram (2000), Dosth (2001), Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka (2001) and Kalyanaraman (2002). His performances in the superhit movies Kasthooriman (2003)[11] and Swapnakkoodu (2003)[12] were also appreciated by critics. He played a cameo in Fazil's Harikrishnans, which marked the reunion of Mohanlal and Mammootty after nine years. The movie Ee Snehatheerathu earned him a Special Jury Award at the 2004 Kerala State Film Awards. In 2005, after his marriage, he took a break from movies. 2008–presentKunchako Boban returned to films in 2008 with a special appearance in a song in Twenty:20 and later acted in Shafi's LollyPop. His real comeback was in the movie Gulumal, directed by popular Ad filmmaker and director V.K. Prakash. Gulumal was followed by a string of successful films which established him as one of the most successful actors of the last decade. He played the lead role in movies such as Mummy & Me, Sakudumbam Shyamala and Lal Jose's Elsamma Enna Aankutty.{{citation needed|date=January 2018}} In 2011, he played the central character in the film Traffic. The film's success and wide critical acclaim ushered in a trend that followed in Malayalam cinema, dubbed the "New generation movies". This was followed by another film Seniors where for the first time he took on a negative role playing a criminal. In same year he acted in successful films like Three Kings, Sevens and Doctor Love. He also won the Youth Icon award at Asianet Film Awards.{{citation needed|date=March 2013}} In 2012, he was featured in three films, Spanish Masala, Ordinary and Mallu Singh.In Spanish masala he played a full length negative role which had dileep as main lead. The film had a high opening at the Kerala box office and had 10,000 showings in theatres before reaching the 50-day mark and took in over {{Indian Rupees}}20 crore (US$1.6M, €1.2M, or £1M {{as of|2013|10|lc=on}}).[13].Mallu Singh is credited as 50th film of Kunchacko Boban. His started 2013 with film Romans and 3 Dots, Bhakthi Prasthanam[14] and Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum.[15] He also appeared in Jamna Pyari (2015), Madhura Naranga (2015), Vettah (2016), Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti (2016) and School Bus (2016).{{citation needed|date=January 2018}} Kunchacko Boban gained critical acclaim for his roles, in films such asBhakthi Prasthanam (2013), Vishudhan (2013), Madhura Naranga (2015) and Vettah (2016). He has had roles in such movies such as Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal, Kadhaveedu, and Ee Snehatheerathu. Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal, directed by Dr. Biju, was an eye-opener on how the use of endosulfan affected Northern Kerala villages.{{citation needed|date=January 2018}} The film was screened at the United Nations and was also selected for many world-famous film festivals including the Toronto Film Festival, New York Indian Film Festival, and International Film Festival of India. Valiya Chirakulla Pakshikal earned the national award for Best Film made on environmental preservation.{{citation needed|date=January 2018}} In 2016, Boban revamped Udaya Pictures, the iconic Malayalam production house. Kochauvva Paulo Ayyappa Coelho marked his debut as a producer under this new film outfit.[16] The year 2017 saw three films, Take Off, Ramante Eden Thottam and Varnyathil Aashanka, earned him numerous accolades as a mature and versatile actor. Take-Off was produced in memory of the late director Rajesh Pillai and earned several awards in State, National and International competitions.{{cn|date=March 2019}} The characters of these films earned him the Family Hero award at the Vanitha Film Awards and Best Actor critics award at the Asianet Film Awards. The film also happened to release on the 20th anniversary of his film debut Aniyathipravu. He began 2018 with three back-to-back superhit films, Shikkari Shambhu, Kuttanadan Marpappa and Panchavarnathatha. His next two releases were Mangalyam Thanthunanena and Johny Johny Yes Appa. His final release of the year was Lal Jose's Thattumpurath Achuthan. He began 2019 with hit movie Allu Ramendran.
