The Lancaster Central School District is a New York school district including the area surrounding Lancaster, New York. The district consists of 7 schools and for the 2015-2016 school year has a total enrollment of 5,278 students [https://web.archive.org/web/20061205225753/http://www.lancasterschools.org/869759813451/site/default.asp]. The current Superintendent is Dr. Michael Vallely. The school district had received national media attention due to controversy over the school's former mascot, the Lancaster Redskins. In June 2015, the mascot was changed to the Lancaster Legends.[1]

Lancaster High School is located 1 Forton Drive and serves Grades 9-12. The current principal is Mr. Cesar Marchioli, and the current assistant principals are Mrs. Terry Adamec, Mrs. Stephanie Lackie, and Mr. Jamie Pernick.

History

Lancaster High School was established in 1894. It moved to the Aurora Street School (currently Lancaster Middle School) in 1922. It moved to the current building in 1953.

Lancaster Middle School is located at 148 Aurora Street in Lancaster and serves Grades 7 and 8. The current principal is Mr. Peter Kruszynski and the current assistant principal is Mr. Scott Bindemann.

History

The middle school building was constructed in 1922 to serve as home as Lancaster High School. After Grades 9-12 moved to Forton Drive, Grades 7 and 8 were housed in the building, now known as Aurora Middle School. The building changed its name from Aurora Middle School to Lancaster Middle School in 2003 to avoid confusion with East Aurora Middle School.[13]
