The album reached No. 50 on the U.S. Billboard 200[4] and remained on that chart for eight weeks,[5] as well as reaching the top 100 in five other countries.[6] "Ceremony" was released as a single, reaching No. 28 on Billboards Mainstream Rock chart[4] and notably featuring Satriani's first recorded use of a seven-string guitar, namely the Ibanez Universe. "A Train of Angels" was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 1999 Grammy Awards;[7] this being Satriani's ninth such nomination. ReissuesCrystal Planet has been reissued twice. The first was on June 16, 2008 as part of the Original Album Classics box set,[8] and most recently as part of The Complete Studio Recordings, released on April 22, 2014 through Legacy Recordings; this is a box set compilation containing remastered editions of every Satriani studio album from 1986 to 2013.[9]Critical reception{{Album ratings| rev1 = AllMusic | rev1score = {{Rating|4|5}}[1] }}Stephen Thomas Erlewine at AllMusic gave Crystal Planet four stars out five, calling it "an instrumental record with a difference" and Satriani's "finest all-instrumental effort since Surfing With the Alien." He praised Satriani for "taking more chances than ever" and further developing his technique, saying that it reaches "new, uncharted waters."[1] Track listing{{Track listing| all_music = Joe Satriani, except where noted | title1 = Up in the Sky | length1 = 4:09 | title2 = House Full of Bullets | length2 = 5:33 | title3 = Crystal Planet | length3 = 4:34 | title4 = Love Thing | length4 = 3:50 | title5 = Trundrumbalind | length5 = 5:13 | title6 = Lights of Heaven | length6 = 4:23 | title7 = Raspberry Jam Delta-v | length7 = 5:21 | title8 = Ceremony | length8 = 4:53 | title9 = With Jupiter in Mind | length9 = 5:46 | title10 = Secret Prayer | length10 = 4:27 | title11 = A Train of Angels | note11 = J.
