I Nearly Bought One! is a compilation album by English rock band Killing Joke, released in 1992 by record label Caroline. ContentThe album contained tracks from every album Killing Joke had released to that point except Fire Dances and Outside the Gate. It also featured a previously unreleased mix of "Wintergardens" and several non-album tracks. The album's cover image of a priest blessing Nazi soldiers was previously used by the band for a concert poster in the early 1980s. Because of its theme, it caused quite a stir and the band were banned from playing a concert in Glasgow, Scotland.[1]{{citation needed|date=February 2012}} Contrary to popular belief, the priest in the picture was not Pope Pius XII, but German Nazi abbot Alban Schachleiter.{{citation needed|date=February 2015}} Reception{{album ratings| rev1 = AllMusic | rev1score = {{Rating|4.5|5}}[2] | rev2 = MusicHound Rock | rev2score = {{rating|3.5|5}}[3] }} Ned Raggett of AllMusic wrote, "not the best compilation that could have been assembled [...] Laugh? is still a reasonable overview of the first decade of Killing Joke and its checkered {{sic}} but still important history".[2] Trouser Press called the album "commendable", but "a few obscure tracks take the place of more essential choices".[4] Track listing{{track listing| title1 = Turn to Red | note1 = from Turn to Red | writer1 = Jaz Coleman, Kevin "Geordie" Walker, Martin "Youth" Glover, Paul Ferguson | length1 = 4:01 | title2 = Pssyche (Live) | note2 = from Ha! | writer2 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length2 = 4:44 | title3 = Requiem | note3 = from Killing Joke | writer3 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length3 = 3:43 | title4 = Wardance | note4 = from Killing Joke | writer4 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length4 = 3:45 | title5 = Follow the Leaders | note5 = from What's THIS For...! | writer5 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length5 = 4:54 | title6 = Unspeakable | note6 = from What's THIS For...! | writer6 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length6 = 5:18 | title7 = Butcher | note7 = from What's THIS For...! | writer7 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length7 = 6:10 | title8 = Exit | note8 = from What's THIS For...! | writer8 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length8 = 3:39 | title9 = The Hum | note9 = from Revelations | writer9 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length9 = 4:56 | title10 = Empire Song | note10 = from Revelations | writer10 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length10 = 3:17 | title11 = Chop-Chop | note11 = from Revelations | writer11 = Coleman, Walker, Glover, Ferguson | length11 = 4:17 | title12 = Sun Goes Down | note12 = from Birds of a Feather EP | writer12 = Coleman, Walker, Paul Raven, Ferguson | length12 = 4:17 | title13 = Eighties | note13 = from Night Time | writer13 = Coleman, Walker, Raven, Ferguson | length13 = 3:49 | title14 = Darkness Before Dawn | note14 = from Night Time | writer14 = Coleman, Walker, Raven, Ferguson | length14 = 5:18 | title15 = Love Like Blood | note15 = from Night Time | writer15 = Coleman, Walker, Raven, Ferguson | length15 = 4:23 | title16 = Wintergardens (New Mix) | note16 = original version from Brighter than a Thousand Suns | writer16 = Coleman, Walker, Raven, Ferguson | length16 = 4:47 | title17 = Age of Greed | note17 = from Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions | writer17 = Coleman, Walker, Martin Atkins | length17 = 7:26 }} Personnel
