释义 |
This is a list of British supercentenarians (people from the United Kingdom who have attained the age of at least 110 years). The Gerontology Research Group (GRG), an organization that tracks supercentenarians and validates their age claims, has asserted that there have been approximately 140 verified supercentenarians from the United Kingdom, the oldest of whom was Charlotte Hughes who died at the age of 115 years, 228 days. The oldest man ever from the United Kingdom was Henry Allingham who died at the age of 113 years, 42 days.[1][2] As of {{date}}, the oldest living person in the United Kingdom is Grace Catherine Jones, born 16 September 1906, aged {{age in years and days|1906|9|16}}.[3] 100 oldest British people ever{{legend2|#F9F9F9|Deceased|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}}{{legend2|#99FF99|Living|border=1px solid #AAAAAA}}Unranked entries have not yet been validated by the GRG. BiographiesBetsy BakerBetsy Baker (August 20, 1842 – October 24, 1955) was born Betsy Ann Russell in Great Brington, England, emigrated to the United States, settled in Nebraska, and became the world's oldest person.[20] She lived for 65 years in Johnson County, where she was called "the Queen mother of the Johnson County Fair" in 1953. At age 107, she received a congratulations letter from president Harry S. Truman. She was featured upon her 112th birthday in the US Army magazine Stars and Stripes.[20] She died in Tecumseh, aged 113 years and 65 days.[20]Baker was the first supercentenarian listed by Guinness World Records as the world's then-oldest person.[20] In 2002, researchers confirmed she had been the world's oldest living person by modern verification standards for an unknown period of time prior to her death in 1955.[20][21] She was the second person in the world (after Delina Filkins) to have reached the age of 113 and to have been validated by modern standards.[21] Jeanetta ThomasJeanetta Jane Thomas (2 December 1869 – 5 January 1982)[2] of Llantrisant, Wales, was a British supercentenarian and was mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records in the 1980s. She was a child of quarry owning parents.[22] Thomas spent her youth in London working as a seamstress. At the age of around 40, she returned to Wales to open a drapery shop, which she ran until the age of 98.[23] She was also the oldest living person in the United Kingdom from 20 October 1980 until her death, at the age of 112 years and 34 days. From the age of 107, Thomas resided at a nursing home at Cowbridge, Wales.[23] A photograph of her, which was taken the day before her 112th birthday, appeared in The Times. Had Thomas lived another six days, she would have broken the British longevity record which at that time was held by Alice Stevenson. Thomas still holds the record for the oldest Welsh-born woman ever, although Welshman John Evans and English-born Anna Eliza Williams (who died in Wales) both lived longer.{{citation needed|date=December 2018}} Daisy AdamsDaisy Irene Adams (née Woodward; 30 June 1880 – 8 December 1993) was for about nine months the oldest person in the UK, between 17 March 1993 and her death on 8 December 1993. She was from Church Gresley, Derbyshire. She died at the age of 113 years and 161 days, and outlived her husband and three of her five children. Her husband died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme, meaning that she was widowed in her thirties. Adams was a teetotaler and ate little. Her son Ted put her longevity down to "living a quiet life".[24]Rebecca HewisonRebecca Hewison (née Ramsdale; 19 October 1881 – 22 September 1994) was a British supercentenarian and the oldest person living in Britain until her death aged 112 years, 338 days.[25] Born in Grimsby, Hewison was the fourth child of six born to Will, a timber merchant, and Betsy-Ann Ramsdale. She married George Hewison, a stonemason, in Grimsby in 1905. In 1938 she moved to be with her daughter Frances in North London. Later in 1963 the family moved to Berrynarbor in Devon until Hewison was 105 when she returned to her hometown of Grimsby. In 1990 she met the Queen Mother at RAF Scampton. She also was a supporter of Grimsby Town football club and met the team in 1991, the year she turned 110 and also the year that the team completed a second successive promotion. Hewison was also taken for flights in aeroplanes and helicopters at Humberside Airport.{{citation needed|date=December 2018}} Lucy Jane AskewLucy Jane Askew (8 September 1883 – 9 December 1997) was an English supercentenarian and the oldest person in Europe at the time of her death at the age of 114 years and 92 days. Askew was born and died in Loughton, Essex. She was born to Arthur George Askew and Susan Elizabeth Askew née Ellis, prosperous landowners. Lucy had five other siblings, all of whom she outlived, although three of them also lived past 100. Askew never married and was a devout Christian. Askew moved into a nursing home when she was 106 and survived a leg operation at 108. She was in good health until shortly before her death when she died peacefully in her sleep. She attributed her longevity to a modest lifestyle.[26][27]Amy HulmesAmy Isabel Hulmes née Matthews (5 October 1887 – 27 October 2001)[28] from Bury, Greater Manchester, England, was a British supercentenarian who became the oldest person in Britain after the death of Eva Morris in November 2000, until her death at the age of 114 years and 22 days.[28] She was also thought to be the oldest person in the world, before the discovery of Maude Farris-Luse who was nine months older. Hulmes was the youngest of nine children, and gave up smoking at the age of 84. She could reportedly still touch her toes at the age of 105.[29][30]Edith IngamellsEdith 'Judy' Ingamells (née Gude; 12 January 1894 – 1 March 2006)[31] was the oldest living person in the United Kingdom, following the death of 113-year-old Lucy d'Abreu on 7 December 2005, until her death aged 112 years 48 days. Judy's successor as the UK's oldest living person was Emmeline Brice.[32]Born in Maidenhead, Berkshire, Ingamells, nicknamed "Judy", moved to Enfield, London at the beginning of the Second World War, where she married a florist, Percy, who worked for a family firm based in Covent Garden. She lived in other areas around England, and worked as a milliner before coming back to settle in Enfield in 1990. Ingamells had three daughters, five grandchildren, four great-grand children and two great-great-grandchildren. When serenaded with wartime songs on her 112th birthday, Ingamells responded "I don't like war songs. Who wants to remember something as horrible as the war?".[31] The secret to Ingamells' longevity, said daughter Pat Bull at the time of her 111th birthday, was to "never look back, always look forward, which she is certainly doing".[33] Notes{{notelist}}References1. ^1 2 3 4 GRG Validated Living Supercentenarians {{webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20010224073235/http://www.grg.org/Adams/E.HTM |date=24 February 2001 }} The Gerontology Research Group (GRG) lists persons as living whose age has been validated and confirmed to be alive within the past year.
