It is situated approximately {{convert|3|mi|km|0}} south-west of Hornsea town centre, and less than {{convert|1|mi|km|1}} west of Great Hatfield. In 1823 Little Hatfield was in the civil parish of Sigglesthorne, and in the Wapentake and Liberty of Holderness.
