In United Kingdom planning law, a local plan is an old-style development plan prepared by district and other local planning authorities. By virtue of specific transitional provisions, these plans will continue to operate for a time after the commencement of the new development plan system brought about by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. Similarly in Scotland, local plans continue to operate in each authority until they are placed by local development plans brought about by the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006. The local development plans also run alongside unitary development plans, which apply to unitary authorities. Law
