The Long-Winged Harrier grows to be “19-21.25 inches (48-55cm) tall with a wingspan of 47 to 61 inches (119-155 cm)”(Schulenberg, Stotz, Lane, O’Neill, Parker & 2010, p.114). This bird is long-legged and long-tailed with a slender build, allowing it to cruise in its search for food. The appearance of the harriers’ feathers/plumages vary, but the face feathers are usually arranged in a disc shape. One consistency is that “all plumages shows gray primaries, tipped and barred with black (visible in flight), and dark, solid-colored upperparts”(Schulenberg, Stotz, Lane, O’Neill, Parker & 2010, p.114). It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Its natural habitats are dry savanna, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, swamps, and heavily degraded former forest.
