Beginning in 2014 it has been run at Los Alamitos Race Course, following the closure of Hollywood Park.[1] The race is open to two-year-old horses and run over a distance of {{frac|1|1|16}} miles (8.5 furlongs). It was raced on dirt until 2006 when Hollywood Park Racetrack installed the synthetic racing surface known as Cushion Track. It returned to a dirt track when the race moved to Los Alamitos. A Grade I event for most of its history, in 2019 it was downgraded to Grade II.[2] Raced in the latter part of December, the race currently offers a purse of $300,000. In 1983, the race had a total purse of $1,049,725, making it the first million-dollar race for two-year-olds and the richest Thoroughbred horse race at the time. Inaugurated as the Hollywood Futurity, in 2007 the race name was changed to the CashCall Futurity under a sponsorship arrangement with the racing stable owner and founder of the CashCall consumer lending company, J. Paul Reddam. Originally raced at the current 8.5 furlongs, between 1985 and 1990 the event was run at 8 furlongs. Six Futurity starters have gone on to win the Kentucky Derby: Gato Del Sol (1982), Ferdinand (1986), Alysheba (1987), Thunder Gulch (1995), Real Quiet (1998), and Giacomo (2005). Preakness winners include Snow Chief (1986), Lookin at Lucky (2010), and Belmont winner A. P. Indy (1992). Real Quiet won the Derby and Preakness and Point Given won the 2001 Preakness & Belmont. Oxbow, who was fourth in the 2012 Futurity, won the Preakness. With his win in 1987, Tejano became the first two-year-old to achieve career earnings of $1 million. RecordsSpeed records:
