The M3 ({{lang-ur|{{Nastaliq|موٹروے 3}}}}) is a north-south motorway in Pakistan, connecting the Lahore end of the M2 to M4 near Abdul Hakeem.

The M-3 motorway is duplicate or parallel motorway of M-4 motorway and took eastern route from Lahore to Abdul Hakeem city, while M-4 motorway which connects M-2 to same Abdul Hakeem city.

Despite the existence of North to south M-4 motorway, M-3 motorway was given preference over vital M-6 (Sukkur to Hyderabad) motorway on which construction work is not yet started, thus causing north to south link incomplete.

Opening

The Lahore to Abdul Hakeem Section was inaugurated on 31st March, 2019[2][3]. At Abdul Hakeem M3 joins with the parallel motorway route coming from M2 (Pindi Bhattian) & Faisalabad in a "Y" junction form. At Abdul Hakeem, the M3 & M4 join together to become M4 which travels onward to Multan.

Route

The M3 starts at the M2 in Lahore. It then goes southwest from Lahore and ends where it meets the M4[4] motorway near the city of Abdul Hakim.

Distance from Lahore to Multan:

Lahore to Abdul Hakeem section = 230 km

Multan-Abdul Hakeem section = 103 km

Total Distance, Lahore to Multan, on M3 = 333 km.

This is less than the previous distance of 385 km on National Highway N5, where the usual driving speed actually achieved due to slow traffic is much less than the 120km/hour speed limit on M3.

M3 is a 6 lane highway with 3 rest areas along the route. Despite of its inauguration during May 2018, it is not operational up till now (March 2019). As per NHA ( National Highway Authority) Opening date is 31st March 2019.
