It is endemic to Ecuador. It is known commonly as cucharillo.[2] Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. If the Magnolia family is treated as consisting of a large number of smaller genera, then this species is placed in genus Talauma. In modern literature, it is customary to treat Magnolia as a large genus, and in that case, this species is treated as belonging to section Talauma in subgenus Magnolia.[3] References1. ^{{Cite journal | author = Rivers, M.C. | author2 = Pérez Castañeda, Á. | last-author-amp = yes | title = Magnolia dixonii | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2016 | page = e.T45615A82410854 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2016 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/45615/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2016-1.RLTS.T45615A82410854.en | access-date = 9 December 2017}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q15523360}}{{Magnoliales-stub}}2. ^Global Tree Specialist Group. 2014.
