These towns are found alongide the National Highway and other important roads within India. These towns tend to have a higher population than villages, and often act as a transit point for surrounding villages. These towns may be taluk headquarters or headquarters of a subdivision. Main road towns frequently serve the purpose of providing services to nearby associated villages. These services may include a post office, bank, tea stall. There may also be a doctor or small dispensary. They are connected with telephone and electricity services.
