}}Majid Samii ({{lang-fa|مجید سمیعی}}, born 19 June 1937[4]) is a distinguished Iranian[5][6] neurosurgeon and medical scientist.[7]

Biography

Samii was born in Tehran, Iran on 19 June 1937.[1] He is of Gilak origin, and his family hails from Gilan. He moved back to Rasht, Iran for a short period in order to improve his Gilaki. After having completed his high school education in Iran, he moved to Germany, where he started his medical studies at the University of Mainz.[8]

He has been the president of the International Society for Neurosurgery and was elected as the founding president of the Congress of International Neurosurgeons (MASCIN) in 2003.[9]

Samii received the "Physician" award by the north German city of Hanover. Former German chancellor Gerhard Schröder hailed the 70-year-old Samii for his medical contribution to neuroscience as head of the International Neuroscience Institute (INI), based in Hanover.

He is the president of the International Neuroscience Institute (INI).[10]

In 2007, he received the "Friendship Award", from the Prime minister of China for his contribution to the medical progress of the country.[11]

He had earlier received the 2014 Leibniz Ring Prize in Berlin.[12]
