The pass connects Pucón and Curarrehue in Chile with Junín de los Andes in Argentina. The road is paved on the Argentinian side and passes just north of Lanín Volcano ({{convert|3747|m|ft|0}}). During winter the pass may close due to heavy snowfalls.
