He also says that Davis was physically handicapped by severe burns that she received at age ten while playing at a bonfire when her clothing caught fire.[3] She earned a bachelor of science degree in home economics[4] in 1910 at the University of California, Berkeley.[5] She then returned to the University of Wisconsin where she started but did not complete a master's degree. She moved to New Jersey, to work for the Squibb Pharmaceutical Company, later returning to the University of Wisconsin to teach and do research for a number of years.[6] In 1913, Davis and McCollum identified what they termed fat-soluble A and water-soluble B, renamed later vitamins A and B,[7] after long research on rats.[8] Davis founded the nutrition laboratory at the University of Wisconsin. She later helped Rutgers University in New Jersey form a nutrition lab as part of its School of Pharmacy. She pursued history and gardening after her retirement in 1940.[6] Davis died in Racine three days after her eightieth birthday on September 19, 1967.[6] Notes1. ^{{cite journal |last1=McCollum |first1=Elmer |last2=Davis |first2=Marguerite |title=THE NECESSITY OF CERTAIN LIPINS IN THE DIET DURING GROWTH |journal=Journal of Biological Chemistry |date=1913 |volume=15 |issue=1 |page=167-175}} 2. ^{{Cite web|title = Chemical & Engineering News: Top Pharmaceuticals: Vitamins|url = http://pubs.acs.org/cen/coverstory/83/8325/8325vitamins.html|website = pubs.acs.org|access-date = 2016-02-24}} 3. ^{{cite book|author=McCollum, Elmer Verner|year=1964|publisher=University of Kansas Press|title=From Kansas Farm Boy to Scientist|location=Lawrence|page=124}} 4. ^{{cite magazine|url=http://onwisconsin.uwalumni.com/features/the-birth-of-vitamin-a/|title=The Birth of Vitamin A|author=Prengaman, Kate|year=Fall 2013|magazine=OnWisconsin|publisher=Wisconsin Alumni Association|accessdate=June 10, 2016}} 5. ^{{Cite book|title = Encyclopedia of World Scientists|url = https://books.google.com/?id=uPRB-OED1bcC&lpg=PA174&dq=Marguerite%2520Davis%2520encyclopedia&pg=PA174#v=onepage&q&f=false|publisher = Infobase Publishing|date = 2007-01-01|isbn = 9781438118826|language = en|first = Elizabeth H.|last = Oakes|page = 174}} 6. ^1 2 {{cite web|title=Marguerite Davis Biography (1887-1967)|publisher=FAQs.org via Advameg|url=http://www.faqs.org/health/bios/87/Marguerite-Davis.html|accessdate=June 10, 2016}} 7. ^{{Cite book|title = The Biographical Dictionary of Women in Science: Pioneering Lives from Ancient Times to the Mid-Twentieth Century|url = https://books.google.com/books?id=QmfyK0QtsRAC|publisher = Taylor & Francis|date = 2000-07-27|isbn = 9780203801451|language = en|first = Joyce|last = Harvey|first2 = Marilyn|last2 = Ogilvie|page = 674}} 8. ^{{Cite book|title = Vitamin Discoveries and Disasters: History, Science, and Controversies|url = https://books.google.com/books?id=azXx4cbrMZMC|publisher = ABC-CLIO|date = 2009-01-01|isbn = 9780313354755|language = en|first = Frances Rachel|last = Frankenburg|page = 6}} External links
