Singles from the album were "Bittersweet" (1985) (reached #10 on Melbourne record charts),[3] "Like Wow – Wipeout" (1985, #28[3]), "Death Defying" (1986) and "Poison Pen" (1986). Mars Needs Guitars! reached No. 140 on the American Billboard 200 albums chart in 1986. The title track, "Mars Needs Guitars" (also the B-side of "Bittersweet" single), was written by all five Gurus[4] and lead vocals were by Brad Shepherd. All other tracks were written[4] and featured lead vocals by Dave Faulkner.[5] Hayride to Hell (1995) is a short film written and directed by former Gurus member Kimble Rendall.[6] "When we commenced the sessions for Mars Needs Guitars! we had a brand new drummer, Mark Kingsmill who altered our lives forever with his distinctive explosive style." - Dave Faulkner.[7]The song "Bittersweet" was used in the video game MVP Baseball 2004. The album was re-released by EMI on the 22 February 2005 with five bonus tracks, a fold out poster and liner tracks by Wally Kempton (Even/The Meanies). Three of the bonus tracks (13 to 15) were recorded live at Selina's, Sydney, in 1986.[5] In October 2010, it was listed in the book, 100 Best Australian Albums, with their previous album, Stoneage Romeos at No. 28.[8] Track listing{{Track listing|all_writing = Dave Faulkner, except where noted[4] |title1 = Bittersweet |length1 = 3:44 |title2 = Poison Pen |length2 = 4:09 |title3 = In the Wild |length3 = 3:07 |title4 = Death Defying |length4 = 3:21 |title5 = Like Wow – Wipeout |length5 = 3:09 |title6 = Hayride to Hell |length6 = 3:15 |title7 = Show Some Emotion |length7 = 2:56 |title8 = Other Side of Paradise |length8 = 3:31 |title9 = Mars Needs Guitars |writer9 = James Baker, Clyde Bramley, Faulkner, Mark Kingsmill, Brad Shepherd |length9 = 2:52 |title10 = She |length10 = 3:28 }}{{Track listing |collapsed = yes |headline = 2005 re-release |title11 = Bring the Hoodoo Down |length11 = 2:54 |title12 = Turkey Dinner |length12 = 4:14 |title13 = Death Ship |note13=live |writer13 = Faulkner, Roddy Radalj, Alan Sharples |length13 = 2:42 |title14 = In the Wild |note14=live |length14 = 3:29 |title15 = Teenage Head |note15=live |writer15 = Cyril Jordan, Roy Loney |length15 = 3:02 }} PersonnelCredited to:[2][5] Hoodoo Gurus
