It was based on the similar M272 V6 introduced in 2004. An evolution of the M113 V8,[1] all M273s have aluminum engine blocks, sequential fuel injection, forged steel connecting rods, a one-piece cast camshaft, and a magnesium intake manifold. The cylinders are lined with silicon/aluminum, and a dual-length Variable Length Intake Manifold is fitted. In addition to this, new features shared with the M272 include DOHC aluminum cylinder heads, 4 valves per cylinder and independent continuously variable valve timing on both the intake and exhaust sides. A new electronically controlled cooling system has eliminated the need for a mechanical thermostat for improved engine warm-up and optimum control of engine temperature. E47The E47 is a {{convert|4663|cc|L|1|abbr=on|disp=flip}} version. Bore and stroke is {{convert|92.9x86|mm|2|abbr=on}}. Output is {{convert|250|kW|PS hp|0|abbr=on}} at 6000 rpm with {{convert|460|Nm|lbft|0|abbr=on}} of torque at 2700-5000 rpm. Applications:
E55The E55 is a {{convert|5461|cc|L|1|abbr=on|disp=flip}} version. Bore and stroke increased to {{convert|98x90.5|mm|2|abbr=on}}. Output is {{convert|285|kW|PS hp|0|abbr=on}} at 6000 rpm with {{convert|530|Nm|lbft|0|abbr=on}} of torque at 2800-4800 rpm. Applications:
