The prosoma is red-brown, with darker margin. Legs are red-brown. The opisthosoma is yellowish, laterally often completely black.[2] EcologyUsually found in caves, in the twilight-zone. The species show a preference for cave walls and roofs, where it spin its orb-web. M. bourneti is able to consume a wide variety of prey items, including dipterans, moths, centipedes, woodlouse, and other cave-dwelling spiders.[3] PhenologyFemale and juveniles are observed all year round. Males are rare, and usually found from August to December. The eggsac (cocoon) is white, drop-shaped, and very similar to that of M. menardi (see [4]). It is usually laid in the proximity of the cave entrance between October and November. The spiderlings hatch from the cocoon between January and February.[3] DistributionIt is found from Europe to Georgia and North Africa.[5] References1. ^{{cite web |url= https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-21107807|title=Rare spider species found in Highgate Cemetery vaults |last1= |first1= |last2= |first2= |date= 20 January 2013|work= |publisher= BBC News|accessdate=21 January 2013}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q973871}}{{Tetragnathidae-stub}}2. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.araneae.unibe.ch/data/113/Meta_bourneti|title=Meta bourneti – araneae|website=www.araneae.unibe.ch|access-date=2016-05-25}} 3. ^1 {{Cite journal|last=Mammola|first=Stefano|last2=Isaia|first2=Marco|date=2014-01-01|title=Niche differentiation in Meta Bourneti and M. menardi (Araneae, Tetragnathidae) with notes on the life history|url=http://scholarcommons.usf.edu/ijs/vol43/iss3/11/|journal=International Journal of Speleology|volume=43|issue=3|pages=343–353|doi=10.5038/1827-806x.43.3.11|issn=0392-6672}} 4. ^{{Cite journal|last=Chiavazzo|first=Eliodoro|last2=Isaia|first2=Marco|last3=Mammola|first3=Stefano|last4=Lepore|first4=Emiliano|last5=Ventola|first5=Luigi|last6=Asinari|first6=Pietro|last7=Pugno|first7=Nicola Maria|date=2015-01-05|title=Cave spiders choose optimal environmental factors with respect to the generated entropy when laying their cocoon|url=http://www.nature.com/articles/srep07611|journal=Scientific Reports|language=en|volume=5|doi=10.1038/srep07611|issn=2045-2322|pages=7611|pmid=25556697|pmc=5154591}} 5. ^{{cite web |url= http://research.amnh.org/entomology/spiders/catalog/index.html|title= The world spider catalog|last= Platnick|first=N.I. |date=2007 |work= version 7.5|publisher= American Museum of Natural History|accessdate=20 January 2013}} 6 : Tetragnathidae|Long-jawed orb weaver spiders of Europe|Spiders of Africa|Spiders of Georgia (country)|Spiders described in 1922|Cave spiders |
