He has a commerce degree from University College Cork and is a qualified chartered accountant. His first front-bench appointment was in early 2011 as the Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Financial Sector Reform, but has held the role of Spokesperson for Finance following the 2011 death of Brian Lenihan.
