His Wrexham career lasted 13 seasons. He made some 500 first-team appearances, appeared in five Welsh Cup Finals, including one as captain, and won two promotions, which took the club to the second tier in the late 1970s for the first time in their history.{{Citation needed|date=March 2010}} He also played for Wrexham in the Cup Winners' Cup in 1976; they reached the quarter-final before losing by the odd goal to Anderlecht.[2] He also represented Wales at Schoolboy, Youth and Under-23 levels before his playing career was ended by a back injury sustained during a match at Fulham in 1978/79. He joined Caersws in 1983, initially as player-manager. He served as manager for 24 seasons, taking the club to three Welsh League Cup triumphs and, in 2002, a place in the InterToto Cup. He resigned in June 2007, continuing to work for an oil company[3] while scouting for former club Wrexham, but returned to the post two years later.[4] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.neilbrown.newcastlefans.com/wrexham/wrexham.html |title=Wrexham : 1946/47 – 2008/09 |work=UK A–Z Transfers |publisher=Neil Brown |accessdate=23 March 2010}} {{Use dmy dates|date=April 2012}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Evans, Mickey}}{{Wales-footy-defender-stub}}2. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/european_football/article2652477.ece |title=Caught in Time: Wrexham in the European Cup Winners’ Cup, 1976 |first=Greg |last=Struthers |newspaper=The Sunday Times |date=14 October 2007 |accessdate=23 March 2010}} 3. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport-news/welsh-football-league/2007/06/21/good-evans-it-s-tough-to-break-up-a-love-affair-55578-19330230/ |title=Good Evans it's tough to break up a love affair |first=Gareth |last=Bicknell |newspaper=Daily Post |location=North Wales |date=21 June 2007 |accessdate=23 March 2010 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://archive.is/20120724021948/http://www.dailypost.co.uk/sport-news/welsh-football-league/2007/06/21/good-evans-it-s-tough-to-break-up-a-love-affair-55578-19330230/ |archivedate=24 July 2012 |df=dmy-all }} 4. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.welsh-premier.com/index.php/news/887-mickey-returns-as-bluebirds-boss |title=Mickey returns as Bluebirds' boss |publisher=Welsh Premier League |date=3 July 2009 |accessdate=23 March 2010 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120324120612/http://www.welsh-premier.com/index.php/news/887-mickey-returns-as-bluebirds-boss |archivedate=24 March 2012 |df=dmy-all }} 11 : 1947 births|Living people|People from Llanidloes|Welsh footballers|Wales under-23 international footballers|Association football central defenders|Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. players|Wrexham A.F.C. players|English Football League players|Welsh football managers|Caersws F.C. managers |
