As of the 2010 census the population was 4,480.[3] GeographyLocated in the southeastern part of the county, it borders the following townships:
The village of Middlefield is located in western Middlefield Township. Name and historyMiddlefield Township was so named for its location roughly halfway between Warren and Painesville.[4] It is the only Middlefield Township statewide.[5] EconomySome of Middlefield's Amish continue to farm with horses,[6] while other farmers use modern machinery.[7] The Middlefield Cheese House has manufactured cheese locally since 1956, and gives public tours.[8] In addition to tourism,[6] other major employers include Middlefield Plastics,[9] Mercury Plastics,[10] and Masco Corporation, which manufactures KraftMaid kitchen cabinets.[11] GovernmentThe township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1. Two are elected in the year after the presidential election and one is elected in the year before it. There is also an elected township fiscal officer,[12] who serves a four-year term beginning on April 1 of the year after the election, which is held in November of the year before the presidential election. Vacancies in the fiscal officership or on the board of trustees are filled by the remaining trustees.
