The ministry offices are located at Jakobsgatan 26 in central Stockholm. HistoryThe Ministry of Employment was established in 1974, when the {{Interlanguage link multi|Ministry of the Interior (Sweden)|sv|3=Inrikesdepartementet|lt=Ministry of the Interior}} ({{lang-sv|Inrikesdepartementet}}) was split into two new ministries. The Ministry of Employment assumed responsibility for labour market, labour protection and immigration issues. Housing policies were transferred to a new {{Interlanguage link multi|Ministry of Housing (Sweden)|sv|3=Bostadsdepartementet|lt=Ministry of Housing}} ({{lang-sv|Bostadsdepartementet}}). On January 1, 1999 the responsibilities of the Ministry of Employment were transferred to the new Ministry of Enterprise, Energy and Communications ({{lang-sv|Näringsdepartementet}}). On January 1, 2007, the ministry was reinstituted after a decision by the new government that took office on October 6, 2006. Areas of responsibility
OrganizationThe ministry is headed by the Minister for Employment, Ylva Johansson (S). Her State Secretaries, Irene Wennemo, Annica Dahl and Anders Kessling, manage the day-to-day work, including the planning, coordination and follow-up of the Ministry’s activities. Furthermore, each minister has a political staff including political advisors and press secretaries. The political staff assist the ministers by preparing political issues, planning and coordination and contacts with the media. The Ministry has an Office of the Director-General for Administrative Affairs, two secretariats and four divisions, which are led by non-politically appointed officials.
