"Detente bala" is an inscription used by Spanish soldiers in the 19th and 20th centuries. The phrase detente bala means "stop, bullet" in Spanish. Patches of cloth with the phrase around a Sacred Heart of Jesus were worn on the chest as a protection. See also- The ghost shirts of the followers of the Ghost Dance Native American movement were believed to protect them from bullets.
