It is mostly found in the freshened areas of the Kara and Laptev Seas and up the major rivers, as well as in Lake Taymyr. Like all whitefishes, it is a silvery, fusiform fish. The average length of mature fish is 33 cm and weight of 1–2 kg, and it can reach a length of 75 cm and a weight of 7–8 kg. Depending on population, the muksun can live up to 16–25 years of age. It is valuable commercially as well as locally as a source of food.[2] As foodMuksun flesh is a delicacy, it is white and tender with very few bones and is one of the species used in the Arctic Siberian dish stroganina.[3]References1. ^{{Cite journal | author = Freyhof, J. | author2 = Kottelat, M. | last-author-amp = yes | title = Coregonus muksun | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2008 | page = e.T135665A4174252 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2008 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/135665/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2008.RLTS.T135665A4174252.en | access-date = 27 December 2017}} 2. ^C. muksun (Pallas, 1814) - муксун Позвоночные животные России. www.sevin.ru 3. ^Stroganina: Frozen Sashimi of the Russian Arctic - Roads & Kingdoms
