释义 |
The wood is significant for the discovery of an iron-working site dating from the Middle Ages. Archaeological excavations by a team from the University of Bradford uncovered the most complete site in the north of England.[3] The Cistercian monastic iron-working site was in operation from the 12th century to the 14th century, using advanced techniques and water power for smelting and smithing iron. The site is not a tourist feature, there being no formal administration or oversight by a heritage body; however, it is possible to access the site via the footpath that runs through Saville Wood.[4] References1. ^{{cite map|title =Sheffield & Huddersfield|map=110|date =2016|scale =1:50,000 |series =Landranger |publisher =Ordnance Survey|isbn =9780319262085}} 2. ^{{cite web|title=Kirklees Metropolitan Council: Open Space Study|url=https://www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/planning-policy/pdf/open-space/part-5.pdf|publisher=Kirklees Metropolitan Council|accessdate=20 December 2016|page=118|format=PDF|date=December 2010}} 3. ^{{cite web|title=University Excavations at Ancient Monument|url=http://www.brad.ac.uk/admin/pr/june2004/ancient.php|website=brad.ac.uk|accessdate=20 December 2016|date=May 2004}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Kirkburton’s Medieval Iron Working|url=http://magazine.aroundtownpublications.co.uk/kirkburtons-medieval-iron-working-past/189/|website=aroundtownpublications.co.uk|last=Neville|first=Ian|publisher=Around Town Magazines|accessdate=20 December 2016|date=March 2012}} External links
