{{for|the Cambridge University cricketer who died young|Nathaniel Thomas Hone}}Nathaniel Hone (1847 in Ireland – 31 March 1929 in Ireland[1]) was an Irish cricketer who played nine times for the Ireland cricket team between 1868 and 1884.[2]

Playing career

Hone made his debut for Ireland in August 1868, playing against I Zingari. He was bowled for a duck in the only Irish innings, and bowled for the only time in his international career, taking 1/20 in the second innings.[2]

He would not play again for Ireland for almost ten years, making his return in August 1878, again playing against I Zingari. He played four times for Ireland in 1879, against the MCC and Surrey before touring North America, playing two matches against Philadelphia. He scored 87 against the MCC, his only half-century for Ireland. He played three more times for Ireland, his final game being against Philadelphia in June 1884.[2]

Statistics

In all matches for Ireland, he scored 171 runs at an average of 14.25. He took one wicket at an average of 28.00.[2]

Family

Hone came from a cricketing family. His brother William played for Ireland, as did another brother Leland, who also played Test cricket for England. Three of his cousins, William, Thomas and Jeffery also played for Ireland, as did his nephew Pat Hone.[1]
