The color pattern is generally mottled brown with the abdomen white. The head is long, rounded, and shovel-shaped. The fin spines are weak.[2] They range from about {{convert|8|to(-)|11|cm|abbr=on}} SL.[1] The species of Neoplecostomus live in fast-flowing water.[2] SpeciesThere are currently 16 recognized species in this genus:[1]
