It reached No. 27 in the UK Singles Chart.[2] "Aunties and Uncles (Impulsive Youths)" and "Innocent Man" appeared as its B-sides. The title refers to the disgraced British tabloid newspaper, News of the World. It is not included on any of the band's studio albums and featured the band's bass player Bruce Foxton on lead vocals. It was also the only Jam single to be written by Foxton apart from "Funeral Pyre", which was co-written by all three Jam members; Weller/Foxton/Buckler. The video for the single was filmed on the roof of Battersea Power Station in Battersea, London. The song is used as the theme tune for the British satirical panel game Mock the Week.[3] Track listing{{Track listing| all_writing = Bruce Foxton, except where noted | total_length = 10:26 | title1 = News of the World | length1 = 3:31 | title2 = Aunties and Uncles (Impulsive Youths) | writer2 = Paul Weller | length2 = 2:35 | title3 = Innocent Man | length3 = 4:20 }} References1. ^{{cite web|title=AllMusic - News of the World - The Jam|url=https://www.allmusic.com/song/news-of-the-world-mt0007502052|accessdate=28 May 2018}} {{The Jam}}{{DEFAULTSORT:News Of The World (Song)}}{{1970s-single-stub}}2. ^{{cite book| first= David| last= Roberts| year= 2006| title= British Hit Singles & Albums| edition= 19th| publisher= Guinness World Records Limited | location= London| isbn= 1-904994-10-5| page= 277}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/latestnews/2015/mock-the-week-decade |title=Mocking the week for a decade |publisher=BBC|date=30 August 2015| accessdate=30 August 2015}} 5 : 1978 singles|The Jam songs|Songs written by Bruce Foxton|1978 songs|Polydor Records singles |
