It operates as a multirole (air superiority, precision strike, and electronic warfare) unit. Based at Gwalior AFB, No. 1 Squadron falls under the Central Air Command, and along with No. 7 Squadron (Battle Axes), No. 9 Squadron (Wolf Pack), and TACDE, forms a part of 40 Wing of the Indian Air Force.[1] 12 days after the Pulwama bombing by a Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist killed 40 CRPF troopers, four Mirage 2000 fighters of the Tiger Squadron launched either Crystal Maze missiles or SPICE 2000 smart bombs at Markaz Syed Ahmad Shaheed training camp at Balakot, Manshera, Pakistan, killing, according to intelligence officials, 325 militants and terror recruits. HistoryThe squadron was established at Drigh Road, Karachi on 1 April 1933.[1] The squadron successfully test fired a BVR MICA missile from a Mirage-2000 aircraft on 24 September 2016.[2] References1. ^1 {{Cite news|url=http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Units/Squadrons/1-Squadron.html|title=No.1 Squadron|last=Singh|first=Pushpindar|access-date=2 November 2017|language=en-gb}} {{iafsqns}}2. ^{{Cite web|url=http://pib.nic.in/newsite/PrintRelease.aspx?relid=151085|title=MICA Missile Firing by 'TIGER' Squadron of IAF|website=pib.nic.in|access-date=2 November 2017}} 4 : Indian Air Force aircraft squadrons|Gwalior|Military units and formations of India in World War II|1933 establishments in India |
