HistoryNorte Vista (or Novi) started as a junior high school, named Arlington Junior High, from 1958 to 1961. The first graduating class was in 1964. In 2015, Norte Vista was awarded the Gold Ribbon Award, which temporarily replaces the California Distinguished schools program. The gold ribbon award recognizes the few schools that demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding test scores.[2] In 2017, Norte Vista was nationally recognized in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, and was awarded a bronze medal. International Baccalaureate{{Unreferenced section|date=January 2018}}The first class of students from Norte Vista High School who graduated from the International Baccalaureate program did so in 2010. Since the addition of this program, there has been a shift in the culture of education at this high school. The IB program at Norte Vista is different from those at other schools because of the emphasis the program puts on mentoring and personal relationships, giving back to the community, and pushing the students to constantly set the bar higher than what they expect.
