Located on the coast of the Gulf of Aqaba. HistoryHistorically, the area was inhabited by two different Bedouin tribes: the Tarabin to the north, and the Muzeina, some {{convert|8|km|0|abbr=on}} to the south. After the Six-Day War when Israel occupied the area, Nuweiba Town was established just {{convert|1.5|km|0|abbr=on}} south of Tarabeen, under the Israeli name, Neviot ({{lang-he|נביעות}}). After the departure of the Israelis, the town expanded and Nuweiba Port, some {{convert|7|km|0|abbr=on}} to the south, was established and developed,[2] with several car ferries now running every day to Aqaba in Jordan by the Arab Bridge Maritime company, and with a small town growing up around itself. Nuweiba castle (or Newibah castle), built on top of the remains of a still older castle in 1893, has been proposed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.[3] GeographyNuweiba lies on a large flood plain measuring about {{convert|40|km2|abbr=on}},sandwiched between the Sinai mountains and the Gulf of Aqaba, and is located some {{convert|150|km|-1|abbr=on}} north of Sharm el Sheikh, {{convert|465|km|-1|abbr=on}} southeast from Cairo and {{convert|70|km|abbr=on|-1}} south of the Israel–Egypt border separating Taba and Eilat. Nuweiba Port was built in 1985 on the Gulf of Aqaba, and serves as a ferry port as well, which allows for easy travel between Jordan and Egypt. ClimateKöppen-Geiger climate classification system classifies its climate as hot desert (BWh). Most precipitation falls in February.[4] {{Weather box|width=auto |metric first=yes |single line=yes |location=Nuweiba |Jan high C=20.8 |Feb high C=22.5 |Mar high C=25.4 |Apr high C=29.2 |May high C=32.9 |Jun high C=35.7 |Jul high C=36.5 |Aug high C=36.8 |Sep high C=34.4 |Oct high C=31.3 |Nov high C=26.6 |Dec high C=22.1 |Jan mean C=15.6 |Feb mean C=16.9 |Mar mean C=19.7 |Apr mean C=23.2 |May mean C=26.3 |Jun mean C=29.5 |Jul mean C=30.7 |Aug mean C=30.9 |Sep mean C=29.0 |Oct mean C=25.8 |Nov mean C=21.3 |Dec mean C=16.8 |Jan low C=10.4 |Feb low C=11.3 |Mar low C=14.0 |Apr low C=17.3 |May low C=19.8 |Jun low C=23.4 |Jul low C=25.0 |Aug low C=25.1 |Sep low C=23.7 |Oct low C=20.3 |Nov low C=16.0 |Dec low C=11.6 |precipitation colour=green |Jan precipitation mm=1 |Feb precipitation mm=3 |Mar precipitation mm=3 |Apr precipitation mm=1 |May precipitation mm=0 |Jun precipitation mm=0 |Jul precipitation mm=0 |Aug precipitation mm=0 |Sep precipitation mm=0 |Oct precipitation mm=1 |Nov precipitation mm=2 |Dec precipitation mm=2 |Jan rain days=2 |Feb rain days=1 |Mar rain days=2 |Apr rain days=1 |May rain days=1 |Jun rain days=0 |Jul rain days=0 |Aug rain days=0 |Sep rain days=0 |Oct rain days=1 |Nov rain days=1 |Dec rain days=1 |Jand sun=8 |Febd sun=9 |Mard sun=9 |Aprd sun=10 |Mayd sun=11 |Jund sun=13 |Juld sun=13 |Augd sun=12 |Sepd sun=11 |Octd sun=10 |Novd sun=9 |Decd sun=8 |source 1= Climate-Data.org[4] |source 2= Weather2Travel[5] for rainy days and sunshine }}
TourismBetween the town and the port are a strip of modern hotels, catering to beach holiday makers and divers. One km north of Nuweiba City, Tarabin village is well known for its Bedouin-style camps where cheap huts are available for rent. Further north, in the direction of Taba, are several other beaches with similar accommodation options. See also
