The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party ({{Lang-ps|پښتونخوا ملي عوامي ګوند}}; {{Lang-ur|{{Nastaliq|پشتونخوا ملی عوامی پارٹی}}}}), abbreviated as PMAP or PKMAP, is a Pashtun nationalist political party in Pakistan.[1]

History

The Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party aims to unite the Pashtuns of Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas into a single entity, the only way, according to the party, to make their rights recognized. The majority of its voters are found in the north of the Balochistan province, where a part of the Pashtuns cohabit with a Baloch majority. In 2008, the party attempted to boycott the vote to protest against the 2007 state of emergency put into effect by President Pervez Musharraf. When the Pakistan Peoples Party was in power from 2008 to 2013, PKMAP criticized the inability of the governmment to end the violence particularly affecting the Pashtuns in Karachi and Quetta, and blames the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for the violence.[2]

Electoral History

This party won one seat in the National Assembly during the 2002 Pakistani general election. It won 4 seats in the National Assembly and 14 in the Provincial Assembly in 2013, which let it become the second largest party in the latter. Following this victory, they enter a coalition with the National Party (representing the Balochs of the province) and the Pakistan Muslim League (N), forming the government of the province and, after several months of decisions, puts several members in the national cabinet. In 2018 elections the party could't secure any national assembly seats and won only one seat in the provincial assembly of Balochistan, The party blamed rigged elections for having lost half of its voters.[3]
