释义 |
A Penny Floater [1][2] is a kind of cheap football commonly used by children in the Western world.[3] Its name derives from the fact that when they were first developed in the 1960s they cost a penny. The "penny floater" may have originated in Italy.[4] The floater part comes from the fact that as they are made of a thin layer of hardened plastic filled with air: their light weight makes them susceptible to floating or swerving with the wind. Penny floaters are commonly used by young children; however amongst older children they are a source of ridicule, being branded cheap "toy" footballs unsuitable for usage. Nonetheless, their cheapness and the fact that they do not damage other objects in urban environments as easily as regular footballs do make them common. Professional footballs are sometimes compared to penny floaters disparagingly, as in the case of the Adidas Jabulani football used in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Jabulani was criticised for its performance, which was partly because its internal stitching made it too spherical to spin normally and more like a penny floater in that regard.[5][6] References1. ^{{cite web|last1=Varley|first1=Ciaran|title=The universal sadness of lost footballs|url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/article/a57d0e0c-1af2-494f-8af9-fc65f6260fb9|website=BBC3|accessdate=2 February 2018|date=10 November 2017|quote=It got sent to us by a bloke from Newcastle – where they call a 99p flyaway a ‘penny floater’}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Penny Floater}}{{toy-stub}}2. ^{{cite news|last1=Roughley|first1=Gregg|title=Euro 2008: Switzerland 0-1 Czech Republic - as it happened|url=https://www.theguardian.com/football/2008/jun/07/euro2008groupa.switzerland|accessdate=2 February 2018|work=The Guardian|date=7 Jun 2008|quote="it flew around in circles like a 99p fly-away football from the market"}} 3. ^{{cite news|last1=Vogt|first1=RJ|title=Under the Lights|url=https://www.mmtimes.com/sports/18334-under-the-lights.html|accessdate=3 February 2018|work=Myanmar Times|date=5 January 2016}} 4. ^{{cite news|last1=Hurrey|first1=Adam|title=A Statistical Analysis Of Every Type Of Object That Could Conceivably Be Used For Childhood Games Of Football|url=https://www.thesportsman.com/articles/a-statistical-analysis-of-every-type-of-object-that-could-conceivably-be-used-for-childhood-games-of-football|accessdate=2 February 2018|work=The Sportsman|date=13 December 2017}} 5. ^{{cite news|last1=Tyers|first1=Alan|title=A 48-team World Cup, the Jabulani and silver goals: football’s worst ever bright ideas|url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/10/05/a-48-team-world-cup-the-jabulani-and-silver-goals-footballs-wors/|accessdate=2 February 2018|work=The Daily Telegraph|date=5 October 2016}} 6. ^{{cite web|last1=Murray|first1=Richard|title=The Brazuca takes aim at World Cup balls of the past|url=http://www.sportshaze.com/the-brazuca-takes-aim-at-world-cup-balls-of-the-past/|website=Sports Haze|accessdate=3 February 2018|date=4 February 2014}} 3 : Balls|Inflatable manufactured goods|1960s toys |
