释义 |
Peter Stumpf is the former principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He was educated first at the Curtis Institute of Music as a student of Orlando Cole and then the New England Conservatory. He started his professional career at age 16 as a cellist in the Hartford Symphony, then spent 12 years as associate principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra before assuming his position at the start of the Los Angeles Philharmonic's 2002/2003 season.[1] He took a year's sabbatical from the LA Phil beginning in 2011 to begin teaching full-time at Indiana University's Jacob School of Music.[2] He left the orchestra permanently in 2012. Stumpf is also the cellist of the Johannes String Quartet.[3] Musicians he has collaborated with include Emanuel Ax, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Mitsuko Uchida, and the Emerson String Quartet.[4] Stumpf is also well known as a cello teacher, having taught at the New England Conservatory, USC Thornton School of Music,[1][5] in addition to his current post at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music. Stolen CelloOn April 27, 2004, the General Kyd, a $3.5 million Stradivarius on loan to him from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, was stolen after he left it on his porch.[6][7] It was discovered in a dumpster by Melanie Stevens, a 30-year-old nurse, after a home surveillance video from across the street showed the cello being lifted by a clumsy thief on a bicycle at around 6:30 am.[7][8][9] Stevens initially asked her boyfriend to turn it into a CD cabinet, though a week and a half later she caught a news report about the missing cello and the $50,000 reward for its return.[8] She identified it on the police website and sought to return it, with the aid of a lawyer.[7] References1. ^1 {{cite web | title = Musician Details: Peter Stumpf | publisher = Los Angeles Philharmonic | date = April 2007 | url = http://www.laphil.com/resources/performer_detail.cfm?id=770 | accessdate = 2007-05-21 }} {{DEFAULTSORT:Stumpf, Peter}}2. ^{{cite web | url=http://allisyar.com/2011/06/15/la-phil-comings-and-goings-part-1-of-3/ | title=LA Phil comings and goings (part 1 of 3): As the Principal Cello chair turns . . . |work=All is Yar | first=CK Dexter | last=Haven | date=June 15, 2011| accessdate=December 11, 2012}} 3. ^{{cite web | title = Johannes String Quartet Biography | publisher = Frank Salomon Associates | year = 2007 | url = http://www.franksalomon.com/Artist.asp?ArtistID=26 | accessdate = 2007-05-21 |archiveurl = https://web.archive.org/web/20070416134312/http://www.franksalomon.com/Artist.asp?ArtistID=26 |archivedate = 2007-04-16}} 4. ^{{cite web | title = Saint Paul Sunday: Johannes String Quartet | publisher = American Public Media | url = http://saintpaulsunday.publicradio.org/artists/artist/index.php?ac=johannes_string_quartet | accessdate = 2007-05-21 }} 5. ^{{cite web | title = Faculty Profiles: Peter Stumpf | publisher = University of Southern California | url = http://www.usc.edu/schools/music/private/faculty/stumpf.php | accessdate = 2007-05-21 }} 6. ^{{cite news|last1=Clarke|first1=Sean|title=Stradivarius saved from future as novelty CD rack|url=https://www.theguardian.com/film/2004/may/19/1|accessdate=4 March 2017|work=The Guardian|publisher=The Guardian|date=19 May 2004}} 7. ^1 2 {{cite news | last = Wood | first = Daniel B | title = The return of a rare cello leaves a trail of question marks | publisher = The Christian Science Monitor | date = 2004-05-20 | url = http://www.csmonitor.com/2004/0520/p01s01-ussc.html | accessdate = 2007-05-22 }} 8. ^1 {{cite news | title = Rare cello escapes CD rack fate | publisher = BBC News | date = 2004-05-19 | url = http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3728193.stm | accessdate = 2007-05-22 }} 9. ^{{cite news|last=Pearson |first=Ryan |title=Stolen Stradivarius cello almost ended up as CD holder |publisher=San Diego Union-Tribune |date=2004-05-18 |url=http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20040518-1644-ca-stolenstradivarius.html |accessdate=2007-05-22 |deadurl=yes |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20051218203335/http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/state/20040518-1644-ca-stolenstradivarius.html |archivedate=December 18, 2005 }} 8 : American classical cellists|Living people|American music educators|Curtis Institute of Music alumni|New England Conservatory alumni|New England Conservatory faculty|Thornton School of Music faculty|Year of birth missing (living people) |
