It was recorded at The Barbershop Studios in Hopatcong, New Jersey and released August 8, 2006 through Hollywood Records and November 21, 2007 in Europe. OverviewPhobia was released on August 8, 2006 and quickly sold out at major retail chains such as Best Buy and Target. The album sold 131,000 copies in its first week, which made it the fastest selling and highest charting Breaking Benjamin album (until 2015's Dark Before Dawn), hitting number two on the US Billboard 200. This is the first studio album Chad Szeliga recorded with the band. The intro track features the sound effects of an airport, namely a flight attendant announcing standard safety procedures and the sound of an airplane making its ascent, alluding to Benjamin Burnley's fear of flying, hence the inspiration for the album name, Phobia.[1]The album re-entered the US Billboard 200 at number 38 on May 5, 2007 with its reissue. On May 21, 2009, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA.[2] Reception{{Album ratings|rev1 = AllMusic |rev1Score = {{Rating|4.0|5}}[3] |rev2 = IGN |rev2Score = {{Rating|8.5|10|score=7.5/10 stars}}[4] |rev3=Robert Christgau |rev3score={{Rating-Christgau|dud}}[5] }} Corey Apar of AllMusic views the album as consistent with their past material, concluding "Phobia will not win over any skeptics still holding out on the band, but for those already happily settled in the Benjamin camp, it makes for another satisfying listen."[3] Track listing{{Track listing| title1 = Intro | writer1 = {{hlist|Benjamin Burnley|Aaron Fink|Mark Klepaski}} | length1 = 1:13 | title2 = The Diary of Jane | writer2 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Klepaski}} | length2 = 3:20 | title3 = Breath | writer3 = {{hlist|Burnley|Klepaski}} | length3 = 3:38 | title4 = You | writer4 = Burnley | length4 = 3:21 | title5 = Evil Angel | writer5 = {{hlist|Burnley|Klepaski}} | length5 = 3:41 | title6 = Until the End | writer6 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Klepaski}} | length6 = 4:12 | title7 = Dance with the Devil | writer7 = {{hlist|Burnley|Klepaski}} | length7 = 3:47 | title8 = Topless | writer8 = Burnley | length8 = 3:03 | title9 = Here We Are | writer9 = Burnley | length9 = 4:18 | title10 = Unknown Soldier | writer10 = Burnley | length10 = 3:46 | title11 = Had Enough | writer11 = Burnley | length11 = 3:50 | title12 = You Fight Me | writer12 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Klepaski}} | length12 = 3:12 | title13 = Outro | writer13 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Klepaski}} | length13 = 2:09 |total_length = 43:30 }}{{Track listing | collapsed = yes | headline = Best Buy exclusive bonus track and Japanese bonus track | title14 = The Diary of Jane | note14 = acoustic version1 | writer14 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Klepaski}} | length14 = 3:05 |total_length = 46:35 }}{{Track listing | collapsed = yes | headline = EMI bonus tracks | title14 = The Diary of Jane | note14 = acoustic version2 | writer14 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Klepaski}} | length14 = 3:05 | title15 = So Cold | note15 = acoustic version | writer15 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Jeremy Hummel|Klepaski}} | length15 = 3:55 | title16 = Rain (2005) | note16 = 2005 version | writer16 = {{hlist|Burnley|Fink|Hummel|Klepaski|Billy Corgan}} | length16 = 3:25 |total_length = 57:00 }} 1The CD released with the Phobia Collectors Edition DVD also includes this track. 2This track is not listed on the album's back insert.
