It is the only species in its genus. The species and genus was first described by Edward William Nelson in 1912.[3] The genus is named in honour of George Washington Goethals.[3] Found in Panama and far northwestern Colombia, its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist montane forest. It is threatened by habitat loss.
