| name = Pittier's crab-eating rat | status = VU | status_system = IUCN3.1 | status_ref = [1] | genus = Ichthyomys | species = pittieri | authority = Handley & Mondolfi, 1963 | synonyms = }}Pittier's crab-eating rat (Ichthyomys pittieri) is a species of semiaquatic rodent in the family Cricetidae.[2] It is endemic to Venezuela. The natural habitats of this species are rivers and swamps. Its karyotype has 2n = 92 and FNa = 98. This was previously thought to be the highest chromosome number known for a mammal,[3] but it has since been found that the plains viscacha rat or red viscacha rat (Tympanoctomys barrerae) has 4x = 2n = 102.[4] References1. ^{{Cite journal | author = Aguilera, M. | author2 = Ochoa, J. | last-author-amp = yes | title = Ichthyomys pittieri | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2008 | page = e.T10762A3214545 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2008 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/10762/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2008.RLTS.T10762A3214545.en | access-date = 24 December 2017}} {{Taxonbar|from=Q308497}}{{Sigmodontinae-stub}}2. ^{{MSW3 Muroidea | id = 13000671 | page = 1120}} 3. ^{{Cite journal | last1 = Schmid | first1 = M. | last2 = Fernández-Badillo | first2 = A. | last3 = Feichtinger | first3 = W. | last4 = Steinlein | first4 = C. | last5 = Roman | first5 = J.
