It is found in Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. This little-known species is a large woodpecker, 33–38 cm (13–15 in) long, and is a close relative to the North American ivory-billed woodpecker.[2] Not much is known about Campephilus pollens breeding habits, however it has been concluded that hatching is asynchronous for this species.[3] Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist forests in the Andes. It is generally found at higher elevations than any other large woodpecker.
