GeographyThe elongated canton sits among the ridges and valleys on the southern slope of Poás Volcano. The Río Poás and Río Poasito form its eastern border, while the Río Prendes and Río Tacares limit the canton to the west. Poás Volcano is the canton's northernmost point. DistrictsThe canton of Poás is subdivided into five districts (distritos):[3]
HistoryThe canton was established by a decree of October 15, 1901. It was named for Poás Volcano.
