It is endemic to the western slopes of the Cordillera Oriental in the Santander Department, Colombia.[1][2][3] Its natural habitat is tropical cloud forests at elevations of {{convert|1450|–|2300|m|abbr=on}} above sea level. It occurs on vegetation in the undergrowth. However, it can also be found at forest edges and shrubs in pastures.
