It is a threatened species, being classified by the IUCN as endangered.[2] The Proserpine rock-wallaby is mostly grey in colour and is a timid grass-eater that rarely ventures far from rock shelter.[3] It is distinguished from the many other rock wallabies found in northeastern Queensland by its larger size and longer tail, tipped with white. It was unknown to science until 1977, when a single individual was captured after farmers at Proserpine had spoken of a strange form of rock wallaby in the area.[4] The Proserpine rock-wallaby is found only in a relatively intensively-settled area, but it is in competition with other more successful rock-wallaby species, which competition is probably responsible for its threatened status.[5] References1. ^{{MSW3 Groves|pages=68}} 2. ^1 {{Cite journal | author = Burnett, S. | author2 = Winter, J. | last-author-amp = yes | title = Petrogale persephone | journal = The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species | volume = 2008 | page = e.T16747A6353468 | publisher = IUCN | date = 2008 | url = http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/16747/0 | doi = 10.2305/IUCN.UK.2008.RLTS.T16747A6353468.en | access-date = 12 January 2018}} Database entry includes justification for why this species is listed as endangered 3. ^{{cite book|last=Menkhorst|first=Peter|year=2001|title=A Field Guide to the Mammals of Australia|publisher=Oxford University Press|page=132}} 4. ^{{cite book|author=Karl Shuker|author2=Gerald Durrell|title=Lost Ark: New and Rediscovered Animals of the Twentieth Century|publisher=HarperCollins Publishers|year=1993|isbn=0-00-219943-2|page=81}} 5. ^{{cite book|last=Maynes & Sharman|first=G.M. & G.B.|editor=Proserpine Rock-wallaby in The Complete Book of Australian Mammals Ronald Strahan)|year=1981|publisher=Oxford University Press|page=220}} External links
