The airport is named for the La Managua barrio where the it is located. The airport is owned and managed by the country's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC). There is distant mountainous terrain north through northeast of the runway. The Parrita non-directional beacon (Ident: PAR) is located {{convert|11.9|nmi|km|0}} west-northwest of the airport. The El Coco VOR-DME (Ident: TIO) is located {{convert|33.1|nmi|km|0}} north of the airport.[6][7] Nearby activitiesManuel Antonio National ParkQuepos is only {{convert|5|km|0}} north of Manuel Antonio National Park, which has four beaches, {{convert|4.7|mi|0}} of hiking trails, and much wildlife. FishingFishing is the second-most popular activity in Quepos behind the national park, and there are over 100 sport fishing boats available to anglers. White Water RaftingAnother popular activity in Quepos is white water rafting. From December to April, it is a leisurely trip on a raft through the mountains in pristine rivers. From May to November, Quepos has several tours which go through stage III to stage V rapids.
